NARROW BUT GUTSY WIN BY CALIFORNIA VALLEY

May 31, 2014

Ben Paterson has punched home California Valley for his sixth career win – scoring in narrow style at Belmont Park on Saturday.

At the son of Reset’s sixth run into his current campaign after a nine month layoff the horse has run into the placings on two of these occasions. Sent around at odds of $16 in the $40,000 Celebrate WA Handicap (1600m) the horse held off a wall of challenges hard against the running rail.

It was the seven-year-olds second win around the Belmont circuit and second under the guidance of Ben Paterson.

A $55,000 purchase from the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale – California Valley was originally trained by Dean Lawson in Victoria he was a winner of two races down under scoring at provincial circuits Ballarat and Bendigo over 2200 metres.

California Valley is from the good producing Rubiton mare Edna Valley making him a half brother to Cornelia Marie (6x wins $157,355) and Chitabe (6x wins $213,600).
